What’s on in Dubai this August?

Here we remind you of what’s on in Dubai on the last month of summer holidays for kids and families all around the world and introduce you to a few new ones to look forward to if you plan a Dubai holiday this August. With the emirate’s vast selection of indoors, perfectly air-conditioned attractions it’s not like you would be short of options, in any case, it’s just the seasonal events that are taking a step back this month, but the ones happening are definitely making a detour for.

Last days of DSS (until 4th August)

Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) may be ending soon 4th August but there’s still time to catch its so-called Final Weekend, with the biggest shopping discounts, a special Hala Al Turk and Mohamed Abdo concerts, both on 4th August, and the still ongoing Circus Carnival Games and Fun Times at Robinsons. The latter will host a Poca & Poca party on the last day, introducing the brand’s latest collection with a live performance by Halal Al Truk.

Dubai Sports World (until 8th September)

Just like we announced last month, the emirate’s largest indoor sports event keeps going and is now in full swing. Hosting all manner of sports courts under one gigantic roof, the Dubai World Trade Centre has transformed a 25,000-square-metre hall into a multi-discipline sports centre so that fitness fans, athletes and sports lovers can practice their favourite activity in full air-conditioned comfort.

Enthusiastic gymnasts (professional or not) will have their own purposely-designed area, as will basketball fan, badminton players, cyclists and footie-loving individuals, who will fall in love with the onsite La Liga Academy, where they´ll be able to get advice from Real Madrid´s Fernando Sanz. For more adventurous souls, who prefer extreme endurance sports like climbing and hiking, there is an awesome Ninja Warrior Course, full of challenging obstacles to test their strength, ability and stamina. Getting fit while having fun is the main idea here!

Dubai Sports World opens daily, from 8 a.m. to midnight, which means it´s easy to squeeze time out of even the busiest schedule to enjoy throwing some hoops, go for a ping-pong match or kick some balls. Prices vary according to activity.

Modhesh World (until 25th August)

Bringing a world of family fun to life for three full months, this is one of the Middle East´s biggest indoor entertainment venues geared towards kids, teens and parents. Now in its 19th edition, this year´s theme is “My Modhesh, My World” and brings four colossal, air-conditioned halls to life, packed with distinct interactive experiences for all ages: Amusement Park, Show Land, Jam Base and Modhesh Bazaar.

Parents and offspring of all ages will have a blast at the wealth of attractions, with traditional rides, kiddie rides, trampolines, bungee-jumping, water games and arcade games at Amusement Park, while Jam Base caters for little ones with go-karting, inflatables and high-tech educational entertainment. Then, there’s Show Land with a focus on stage entertainment for all and outlets for delicious food and beverage options. Lastly, Modhesh Bazaar is the place to loosen the purse strings and indulge in some retail therapy at fantastic indoor markets and shops.

Designed to provide oodles of fun for young and old, Modhesh World opens daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends. The best part is how affordable a day out (or more like day-in) costs, with standard tickets going for as low as 25 AED (just over £5) and a “Happy Pass” (limited to use between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and including unlimited daily play on weekdays costing 125 AED (£26). Kids under three go free, as do seniors. It’s on at Dubai World Trade Centre, taking over Halls 1 to 8.

Laughter Factory (9 and 10 August)

The month-long comedy extravaganza that kicked off last month ends in the second week of August, but not without saying goodbye to humour with two great, side-splitting shows at two different locations: the Grand Millennium Barsha Heights (9 August) and Jumeirah Golf Estates (10 August). Tickets for both shows cost 150 AED (£31).

The two very last Laughter Factory shows this summer will be headlined by British comedian Dane Baptiste and his funny antics, who will perform material from his Citizen Dan Tour, a sell-out success, as well as incorporate elements of his top-rated TV shows like “8 out of 10 Cats” and “Live at the Apollo”. Sean Collins will follow up with his wry observational humour style while New Yorker ex-lawyer, Jackie Fabulous adds some Bronx spice with her sassy wit. It´s on at 9 p.m. on 9th August and 7 p.m. on 10th August.

Eid Al Adha Fireworks (21 to 24 August)

One of the most special dates in the Islamic calendar, Eid Al Adha marks the end of Hajj – the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Dubai celebrates this holy festivity with families and friends getting together, charitable acts and, of course, amazing fireworks – the exact dates of these stunning light shows will depend on moon sightings, so check the skies to know when to enjoy the Eid Al Adha fireworks live in Dubai.

Eid Fireworks at Dubai Festival City Mall (22 or 23 August)

The Dubai Festival City Mall will be in full celebratory mode this Eid Al Adha with not one but two sets of evening firework displays, on two consecutive days, specifically on the second and third days of Eid. To enjoy the beautiful sparks in the night sky it’s a good idea to book a seat at any of the many restaurants in Festival Bay offering uninterrupted views of the firework action. Early birds will furthermore get to enjoy special shopping deals across the mall and a chance to view the “Imagine” light and sound shows taking place every hour after sunset.

Eid Fireworks at The Beach, La Mer and Al Seef (22 to 24 August)

The Beach, La Mer and Al Seef is a trio of high-end luxury venues going one step further by not having two, but three consecutive nights of spectacular fireworks this Eid Al Adha. Head to either of these three upmarket lifestyle and leisure destinations to witness stunning firework shows for three nights.

Grab a lavish dinner at a swanky restaurant and catch the live action, which they assure this year will be more dramatic than ever before, at all three different locations. Whichever venue you choose, you’ll have a wealth of dining options to choose from and plenty of places from which to enjoy the magnificent fireworks. The light shows start at 8:30 p.m. in The Beach, at 9 p.m. in Al Seef and at 9:30 p.m. in Le Mer.
